Spanish HolIdays for 4 days, we'll be back. Best regards.
23/07:
As Steve asked we are going to try to explain the use of el-la-un-una ....All though it is always difficult to highlighten in short grammatical rules :-)
Two Classifications for Nouns: Masculine and Feminine
The basic rule is that masculine nouns go with masculine adjectives and articles (el-un), and feminine nouns go with feminine adjectives and articles (la-una).
(In English, the articles are "a," "an" and "the.")
Although Spanish nouns are classified as either feminine or masculine. there can be feminine nouns that describe things we think of as masculine, and vice versa. For example, un elefante, which is masculine in form, refers to an elephant whether it's male or female. For some people, it might be easier to think of them as simply two classifications.
Nouns and adjectives that end in -o (or -os for plural adjectives) generally are masculine, and nouns and adjectives that end in -a (or -as for plural adjectives) generally are feminine, although there are off course exceptions.
Some examples:
El - masculine- : el hombre : the man – el problema : the problem
Un- masculine-: un hombre: a man – un problema: a problem
la - feminine : la mujer: the women – la mano: the hand
Una- feminine: una mujer: a women – una mano: a hand
